It’s natural to want to look your best and it’s for this reason that the beauty industry is one of the biggest industries on the planet, estimated at being worth over £100 million per year. The irony is however is that for an industry that promises to make women (and men) younger and healthier, many of the products in the industry are bursting with chemicals that can irritate the skin and have even been linked with more worry health effects. Below we take a look at 3 reasons choose natural skin care products over synthetic ones…
Do you want to absorb toxic chemicals through your skin?
Skin by its very nature absorbs any substance that is placed upon it. How much actually gets absorbed is debateable but it is certainly possible that some of the toxic chemicals that are used in the manufacture of some skincare products could enter the bloodstream. Whether it is a little or a lot, NONE is much, much better.
It’s not just through your skin though that chemicals can enter your body. Lipstick can be ingested through the mouth and sprays and powders can be inhaled through the nose and the mouth and hand creams and enter our bodies when eating with your hands. With the cosmetics industry being shockingly unregulated in terms of the ingredients that can be used in skincare products, some of the chemicals used in synthetic skin care products and makeup are linked with some very negative effects on the body. It’s because of this, more and more people are choosing only to use natural skin care products.
By turning your back on synthetic skin care products and utilising natural plant based products, you can significantly decrease your toxic chemical load.
Did you know that the average woman exposes herself to hundreds of chemicals everyday?
The toxic chemical load for the average woman is staggering. Research by Bionsen, a natural deodorant company, found that the average woman’s daily grooming and makeup routine means she ‘hosts’ a staggering 515 different synthetic chemicals on her body every single day. This consists of things like hair spray, make-up, hand and body lotions and shampoo as well as a host of other products. Who’s to say how some of these chemicals react together when in the body? Men are exposed to much less, approximately 80, but we suspect this will increase significantly as more and more men are initiating a comprehensive skin and hair care regime.
Natural products are holistic and work hand-in-hand with your body
It’s common sense that your body will respond much better and much more positively to natural substances. Skincare products that are made with wholesome and natural ingredients work in harmony with the body, whereas synthetic products don’t. Natural ingredients, sustain and nourish and are less invasive and problematic. It’s a fact that simpler is better, and with natural products using fewer ingredients (that are natural and wholesome), if you are unlucky enough to have a reaction, it is easy to locate the source.
With natural skincare products being as effective, if not more effective than synthetic ones, why would you choose to cover yourself in toxic synthetic chemicals when you could nourish your skin with wholesome, natural ingredients?
